LADIES [Day 11]

Self-worth. Self-confidence. Self-esteem.

Something each and every woman struggles with at some point in her life. What am I worth? Does someone need me? How do others see me? Am I enough? What did I do wrong? Am I still desired? Am I important to someone? Does someone care? How does my hair look? Does this outfit make me look fat? What will they think if I walk in front of them? I wonder what they are thinking about what I just said? Will what I say even matter?

These are the kind of questions that float in women's minds every single day. And if they aren't consuming your mind at some point in time, then let me just say that these questions plague me at least once a day. What is my worth? Really trying to get a grasp on that, I received a book for my birthday from an amazing friend called "Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul" by John and Stasi Eldredge and I have to say that it opened my eyes to a whole new realm of who exactly a woman is.

There have been numerous jokes about how women were created last because God had to create a rough draft before the masterpiece [to all males, just go on and laugh. It's just a joke ;)] but it in all honesty, this is truth. In the Bible, God stated that "it was not good for man to be alone." So what did He bring along? A woman. Captivating (an amazing book you should all check out!) states, "Step to a window ladies, if you can. Better still, find some place with a view. Look out across the earth and say to yourselves ‘The whole, vast world is incomplete without me. Creation reached its zenith in me.'" I AM worth something. The beauty within me has meaning and is needed in this world.

We can be fragile souls. We can cry at the drop of a hat. We can bite your head off about something you may feel is petty. We can spend hours getting dressed for one night out. We can clean a house top to bottom to prepare for guests. We can make you mad some days and make you smile the others, but in all truth and honesty, we have a worth that is not known by most and it is vital that we begin realizing this.

Society today has pin-pointed what a woman SHOULD be but has yet to reveal what a woman CAN be. We are often suppressed by rules... by opinions.. by traditions of what a real lady should be. It is sad to say, but true. However, we have the choice to go against the status quo and be who we want to be. Captivating states, "I know I am not alone in this nagging sense of failing to measure up, a feeling of not being good enough as a woman. Every woman I have ever met feels it- something deeper than just the sense of failing at what she does. An underlying gut feeling of failing at who she is. I am not enough and I am too much at the same time. Not pretty enough, not thin enough, not kind enough, not gracious enough, not disciplined enough. But too emotional, too needy, too sensitive, too strong, too opinionated, too messy. The result is SHAME, the universal companion of all women. It haunts us, nipping at our heels, feeding on our deepest fear that we will end up abandoned and alone."

But please, look in the mirror today and see your beauty. Don't be trapped under society's thoughts of WHO you are. Be the girl that you see in your reflection. Follow your heart. Follow your desires. Be all that you can be because life is just way too short not to. Captivating stated that women need three things: "We desire a beauty that is worth pursuing, too be needed, and to be irreplaceable." How true is this? And the truth of the matter is: You are all of this and someday, someone will realize that.

Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis stated, "I am a woman above everything else.." and what a beautiful statement. Remember today your worth as a woman. You are beautiful sweetie. You have so much to offer this world. Be that girl. Be that woman.. and today..

realize your worth.
