Project 365: Day 3- December 3rd

Not every bed time story ends with a "Happily Ever After" but the beauty is..... each bed time story has a story and that's enough for me.

I love my country. I love our military. And I support them through thick and thin.... I have sent care packages, wrote letters... and for the first time last night... I read a soldier a bed time story. The picture is a bit blurry, but it's a picture of the laptop screen I read the story from (along with an added touch of camo.) Which story did I read you might ask? "Brown Dog." No, it is not your typical bed time story, but it is a story of courage, determination, and repetitive alliterations. The story starts out about a Prince and a Princess that want a little brown barking dog and throughout the entire tale, they wander around SpaceLand Kingdom to find one. They encounter numerous visitors including the Space Land Pet Store Owner (whom we named Hank) and a woman at the King’s Royal Doggie Park.

Did the soldier fall asleep upon hearing the story? He sure did not. But did the soldier laugh through the entire story and critique how I read the story at the end? You bet. I have yet to figure out whether I will ever read another bed story to him (because apparently I talk to fast) but I must stay it felt incredible to help a Great American Hero. They do so much for our country. This doesn't even remotely begin to pay back for any of their sacrifices.. struggles.. and successes, but it was definitely a fun experience. If anyone else wants a nightly story, I'm sure I could sacrifice and do a conference call. Tonight's bed time story: William Wobbles McGreet & His Ten Bowls of Wheat. Stay tuned for details.


In all honesty, bedtime stories were always a favorite for me. I loved reading growing up and even to this day, I love reading before bed because getting lost in the chapters, in the sentences... takes you to another world even if but for a brief second. Stephen Vincent Benet stated: Books are not men and yet they stay alive. And I think it's safe to say that that sums up my love affair with books. They are forever giving but never taking. They are forever enticing, but never overwhelming. Ah, literature.. take me away.
